The Northern Chumash Tribal Council is currently in escrow to acquire Dos Pueblos Ranch and Institute.

This land is sacred to the Chumash people, who have lived along this coast for thousands of years. Preserving and sustaining Dos Pueblos Ranch under tribal stewardship is a once-in-a-multi-generation opportunity to restore our relationship with the land, honor our ancestors, and carry forward a powerful legacy of environmental education, cultural revitalization, and conservation.

Situated on the Gaviota Coast just north of Santa Barbara, Dos Pueblos holds significant cultural, historical and environmental importance in California. Initially inhabited by the Indigenous Chumash, it is often referred to as the place "where California was born." The name Dos Pueblos refers to the two Chumash villages, Mikiw & Cuyamu, situated on either side of what is now Dos Pueblos Creek. It also marks the southern boundary of the new Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary.
